The Best of Chile

Travel from Santiago, visiting beautiful wineries and tasting the most delicious wines in each of the wine valleys along the route. You will also enjoy great views of the Andes, beautiful scenery, and regional cuisine, while visiting local villages close to Santiago.

Day 1: Santiago / Welcome

Meet and greet your guide at the Santiago airport and private transfer to the Singular Santiago Hotel, which is located in a charming and quiet residential neighborhood close to restaurants and shops – Afternoon at leisure – In the evening, before your welcome dinner at Santiago gourmet restaurant, we will go over the trip itinerary and have an introduction to the Chilean wine regions, given by a wine expert – Overnight at the Singular Hotel Santiago (D)

Day 2: Maipo Valley / Tradition & Gourmet Experience

In the Maipo Valley you will find Chile’s oldest and finest wineries. Many keep their cellars just as they were when first established in the 19th century. The red wine produced in this region is world renowned.

Today we will are going to visit one of Chile’s finest wines and an exclusive joint venture between Mouton Rothschild and Viña Concha y Toro, Almaviva. We will tour the unforgettable vineyards, grounds, and facilities and a tasting of the fantastic Almaviva wine.The first premium red blend made in Chile – Next private tour and premium wine tasting will be at Perez Cruz winery, an exclusive vineyard that produces top quality red wines. The winery it is characterized by its modern wine cellar inserted in the Chilean countryside, Wine Spirit magazine as “Winery of the Year in 2008” – Our last stop will be Santa Rita winery. There we will visit the old cellar, the Andean Museum, which has a valuable private collection of archeological pieces and pre-Columbian arts and crafts, follow by a gourmet lunch at the winery’s restaurant accompanied by their wines – Return to your Hotel in Santiago – Overnight at the Singular Hotel Santiago (B, L)

Day 3: Aconcagua Valley & Valparaiso / The Andes & Pacific

Today we will visit Aconcagua Valley which is about 1,5 hours ride from Santiago – Private visit and wine tasting at Von Siebenthal winery, this is a small and family project focus in premium red wines – Visit at Errazuriz winery where we will have a leisurely walk through the vineyards; this is a fun and easy trail – After our walk, we will enjoy an interesting tour of the cellar facilities, follow by a private lunch at the winery – We head next for Valparaiso Port, one of South America’s oldest port cities – explore Valparaiso Port, world heritage site, old main seaport of the country, located on 32 hills surrounding the bay. In the past it was the most important trading center of the country until 1930 – City tour around Valparaiso, discovering its historic sites and charming hillside “elevators” – Check in and evening at leisure to enjoy the Hotel facilities; Spa, restaurant or Valparaiso’s beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean – Overnigh at Casa Higueras Hotel in Valparaiso (B, L)

Day 4: Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys

Today we will visit the Casablanca and San Antonio Valleys famous for its premium white wines and cool climate reds including Pinot Noir and Syrah.
After breakfast and check out, depart to Casablanca Valley for a private visit and premium wine tasting at Loma Larga winery, a Chilean family project focus in fine coastal cool climate reds (Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir) and whites (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay), the winery Sommelier (Alejandra) will guide you to the wine cellar and vineyards – Continue to visit Kingstong Family winery where we will test one of the best Sauvignon blanc and Pinot Noir in the Valley, follow by a gourmet picnic lunch – Our last stop will be Matetic, an exclusive winery that makes fine wines from 100% organic grapes. During our stay you will see a Chilean hacienda and a modern wine cellar inserted in the natural surroundings with spectacular views of the vineyards. Meet Matetic’s winemaker – Check in and private dinner at Matetic Guest House (B, L, D)

Day 5: San Antonio & Colchagua Valleys

Similar to the Maipo Valley, this is a region where some of the best “big” red wines are produced, including Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.
After breakfast and check out, we will drive to Lo Abarca Village for enjoying a private premium wine tasting at Casa Marin winery, a beautiful and small family winery. Meet Marilu Marin or a member of her family – Then it’s on to your final destination, Colchagua Valley (Apalta) – Lunch and check in at Residence Casa Lapostolle (Relais & Chateaux), follow by a private tour and premium wine tasting at Clos Apalta winery, including family’s wine cellar, Wine Spectator magazine as a wine of the Year and “Top 100” Clos Apalta 2005 – At leisure until your private dinner accompanied by Casa Lapostolle’s best wines (B, L, D)

Day 6: Cachapoal and Colchagua Valleys / Spectacular Views & Highlights

After breakfast and check out, we will visit Neyen winery, one of Chile’s oldest vineyards and enjoy a private wine tasting of Neyen wine, an elegant Cabernet and Carmenere blend – Continue for a private tour, premium wine tasting and gourmet lunch at Altair winery where we can appreciate the spectacular views of the valley and The Andes Mountains – Arrival to Santiago and check in at the Singular Hotel Santiago (B, L)

Day 7: Santiago / Goodbye

After breakfast and check out, depart from your hotel for a city tour through Santiago’s historic downtown and surrounding areas. Visit one the most colourful and interesting food markets in Central Santiago. Your local guide will be showing you some of the distinctive vegetables and fruits of Chile – Lunch at local restaurant – At leisure until your airport transfer for the return flight home – End of the trip (B, L)

WINE EXPERT GUIDE AND TRIP PLANNER

Karen Gilchrist is a graduate of the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences of the Sorbonne University in Paris and the holder of diplomas in wine tasting, tourism and marketing from the London Chamber of Commerce and the British Industry Examinations Board, accomplishments during her eight years of residence in Europe. Her experience in connection with wine routes include in USA (California, Oregon, Long Island), France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile.
Karen organized Chile’s first ever Carmenere event, which was attended by the national and international press. In addition to guiding she is also a wine tourism consultant in Chile and abroad.

Visas
If you are a US or European citizen, a visa is not required to enter Chile. Please remember to keep the tourist card that will be given to you at immigration upon arrival, you will need it to leave the country. Citizens of other countries, check with your Embassy or Consular office for further information.
